Helping your child learn Modern Standard Arabic at home

Practical, gentle ways to help children learn Modern Standard Arabic, from the first letters to reading and speaking with confidence.

Lots of parents want their children to understand Arabic, not just recognise the letters. Modern Standard Arabic is the shared language of books, news and formal speech across the Arab world, so it's a brilliant foundation.

Start with sounds, not grammar

Young children learn by hearing and copying. Songs, simple greetings and everyday words (food, colours, family) build confidence long before any grammar rules.

Ten minutes a day is plenty

Short daily practice works better than a long weekly session. Flashcards over breakfast. Labelling things around the house. Reading a short line together before bed.

Learning together helps

Children speak more when they're with other children. That's why we teach Arabic in small groups, where everyone gets a turn and nobody feels singled out.

Celebrate small wins

The first time your child reads a sentence on their own is a big moment. Make a fuss of it. Motivation is the engine of language learning.
